Why regular nail trims matter
Long, uncut nails can affect your dog's health more than you might think, impacting their posture and comfort. That's why we're thrilled to offer a complimentary monthly nail trim. It's our way of partnering with you to ensure your pup stays happy and healthy.

If a dog's nails are left untrimmed for an extended period, the overgrowth can severely impact its health across skeletal, postural, dermatological, and behavioral aspects, as detailed below:
• Bone Deformity: Long nails act as a lever, lifting the paw and forcing the dog to bear weight on its toe joints. This causes permanent curvature and deformation of the phalanges, especially stunting proper bone development in puppies.
• Joint Wear & Pain: Uneven weight distribution strains the wrists, elbows, and hips, leading to arthritis and joint effusion, resulting in limping and reluctance to put weight on the paw.
• Nail Embedding: Overgrown nails curve backward and pierce the paw pad, creating deep, painful wounds, pus, and infections, which may render the dog completely unable to walk.
2. Abnormal Gait & Reduced Mobility
• Distorted Posture: To alleviate pain, the dog adapts with tiptoe walking, splayed/knock-kneed stance, or a hunched back. Chronic compensatory strain leads to muscle tension and atrophy.
• Decreased Activity: Pain discourages running, jumping, and climbing stairs. Inactivity contributes to obesity and muscle loss, further worsening joint issues.
3. Skin & Infection Risks
• Pad Injuries & Infections: Open wounds from embedded nails easily contract bacterial dermatitis and cellulitis, which can spread systemically.
• Nail Breakage & Bleeding: Brittle, overlong nails split or fracture easily, exposing the quick (blood vessel) to bleeding and pain, and increasing the risk of fungal infections (e.g., onychomycosis).
4. Behavioral & Psychological Impact
• Irritability & Anxiety: Persistent discomfort makes dogs sensitive, aggressive, and resistant to paw handling, straining human-animal bonding.
• Destructive Scratching: Discomfort leads to excessive scratching of furniture, floors, and skin, causing secondary skin injuries and household damage.
5. Additional Complications
• Poor Circulation: Pressure on paw blood vessels reduces blood flow, causing pale, cold, numb paw pads.
• Exaggerated Risks for Senior Dogs: Pre-existing joint degeneration is accelerated, drastically increasing the chance of fractures and paralysis.
Recommendation: Trim nails every 2–3 weeks for small breeds and 3–4 weeks for large breeds. Regular walking on rough surfaces (concrete, gravel) naturally wears down nails and reduces trimming frequency.
